Set up:
1:Remove one 3mm vertical end cap.
2: Attach the 12mm adapter and now re-attach the 3mm vertical end cap to the other end of the shelves.
Disclaimer: You will not be able to use the base with the additional sections added. Recommend purchasing the kit without the base if you plan on adding additional sections down the road.
